Why business owners choose ERS Energy for solar
You don't need a separate roofer and a separate solar installer. We handle both, so your roof and your solar system are designed and priced as one project rather than two.
We size every system to your actual roof space and energy use during a free site visit, rather than recommending more panels than your building can use.
You get a written breakdown of cost, covering panels, storage if included, and any roofing work, with nothing hidden.
Once your system is live, performance monitoring means you can see what it's generating and catch any drop in output early.
What's included in your commercial solar installation
We assess your roof, orientation, shading and energy usage before designing a system around what your building can actually support.
Tier 1 panels sized to your available roof space and your energy needs, not the maximum your roof could theoretically hold.
These convert the power your panels generate into electricity your building can use. Sized and positioned based on your system and your site's layout.
Flat industrial roofs typically use a ballast mounted system, which avoids penetrating the roof membrane. We specify whichever mounting approach suits your roof type.
Our electricians handle all cabling, isolators and the connection between your system and the building's existing supply, including any Distribution Network Operator application your system size requires.
Battery storage lets you use solar power generated during the day later in the evening or during peak pricing periods, sized to how much of your generation you want to keep on site.
Once live, your system is monitored so any drop in output gets caught early rather than going unnoticed for months.
How businesses fund commercial solar
Most UK businesses fund commercial solar one of a few ways. Capital Allowances, specifically the Annual Investment Allowance, let you deduct the full cost of the system from taxable profits in the year of purchase, which can reduce the effective net cost by around a fifth to a quarter depending on your corporation tax rate. Some businesses pay outright from cash reserves to capture the full long term saving. Others use asset finance or a lease arrangement to spread the cost over time. We're happy to talk through what makes sense for your business as part of your quote.
Do you need planning permission for rooftop solar?
In most cases, no. Since December 2023, the previous size cap on rooftop commercial solar was removed, so most installations on warehouses and industrial units fall under permitted development rather than needing a full planning application. The main conditions are that panels stay within set height and edge limits, and the building isn't listed or in a conservation area.
Larger systems still need a grid connection application to your local Distribution Network Operator, known as a G99 application, which can take several weeks to process. We handle this as part of every project, so it's factored into your timeline rather than something you need to chase yourself.
Our approach to commercial solar installation
Every project starts with a free site visit to assess your roof, orientation and energy use. From there you get a written quote, a realistic install timeline, and ongoing performance monitoring once the system is live.
Not sure if your roof can take a solar system as it is? We check roof condition as part of every solar site visit, and can plan roofing and solar work together as a single project if anything needs addressing first. See our roofing services →

When does commercial solar make sense?
Solar tends to make the most financial sense for buildings with:
A large, mostly unobstructed flat roof
High daytime energy use
Rising energy bills with no sign of levelling off
Plans to electrify vehicles or equipment
A roof replacement coming up that solar could help offset
If you're planning a roof replacement anyway, it's worth getting a solar quote at the same time. See our roofing services for how the two work together.
